More Knee Jerk Measures Help Only A Few
Following on from the dreadful ideas to shore up the UK mortgage market, Gordon Brown has come up with more measures low on thought and impact, this time to help people with their energy bills.
It seems that this government has decided that not everybody in the UK needs help with their fuel bills. I must have missed the announcements where only OAPs and “poor households” suffered 40% increases in gas prices. I foolishly thought that everyone was affected.
Why is such a huge majority of the population, who provide the vast majority of national tax income, completely left out of this announcement? Money off insulation? Great, I already have it.
Get the energy companies to fix prices or even reverse the latest huge increases and we would really have something. They must be laughing with getting away with charging what they do without having to give anything back.
Gordon Brown has the long term vision of a mayfly. Knee-jerk policies built upon whatever is being discussed in the papers that week. Notice that nothing else has been said about public safety and hoodies carrying knives while they hang about shopping centres since the papers stopped freaking out?
Trouble is, do we really have an alternative? 12 years in power and the government is still talking about listening to the electorate, learning lessons and concentrating on deliverables.
12 years and the UK is nowhere.
